Fishes Cafe Sustainability Mission Statement
Fishes Cafe is committed to the highest standards of environmental best practice. To that end we:
- Recycle our used cooking oil by giving it to one of our Fishermen suppliers who manufactures bio-diesel to run his boat and landcruiser to deliver fish. This is full circle recyling.
- We aim to recycle our bio-dynamic waste to compost which will then used to fertilise the Point Lookout Community garden.
- We are negotiating with the Redland City Council to provide a commercial recycling of our PET, cardbroard and glass bottles.
- We source as much produce as possible from local business suppliers, thus reducing environmental haulage costs and contributing to the local Stradbroke Island economy.
- We supply only recycled packaging for our takeaway meals.
- We are installing a "heat defuser" to capture the heat produced by our coolroom motor and using it to heat our hotwater prior to going into the hot water system.
- We have installed low flow taps to all our sinks and water devices.
- Replacing halogen light bulbs with low wattage alternatives.
- We have installed the latest technlogy refridgeration appliances.
- Encourage bicycle riding around Point Lookout.
