Redlands City Council Plans to Lease Straddie Holiday Parks

Furore threatens to errupt as the Redlands City Council attempts to justify a Tender process that could see a 30 year lease granted to manage and operate Straddie's popular beach front camping sites.

"Over the past year Council has investigated future management options for the Straddie Holiday parks. Various management options were investigated, including management contracts and leasing with terms ranging from 5 to 30 years.

Council’s rationale was to identify options that would enable it to deliver an optimal triple bottom line result of cultural/social, economic and environmental benefits to the entire community. These investigations included a public expression of interest process calling for submissions on the options for the future management of the camping grounds."

It is understood that the Island Environmental watch dog, Stradbroke Island Management Organisation (SIMO) is preparing a detailed response to the planned "privatisation", after the successful tender anouncement planned for late August, was delayed to allow further community consulation.

For more information, the complete Redlands City Council Question & Answer document is included for download below and SIMO site here.
