North Stradbroke Island Businesses

North Stradbroke Island or "Straddie" as it is known to those who frequent the island covers 27,530 hectares and is the second largest sand island in the world after Fraser Island to the north. The elongated North Stradbroke shields much of the southern part of Brisbane's Moreton Bay and the smaller islands from the ocean swells.

The island is serviced by Stradbroke Buses, with buses meeting almost every water taxi. Buses operate between Dunwich, One Mile, Amity Point and Point Lookout. The island is also serviced by taxi. Alternatively, you may take your own car over to the island using a vehicle barge service. All townships are linked with sealed roads which are accessible by conventional vehicles, however a 4WD is required for driving on beaches and inland sand tracks. North Stradbroke Island attracts 4WDers, fishermen, surfers and beach lovers to its expansive stretches of sandy coast and Straddie offers a range of Stradroke Island Accommodation and Holiday Rental infrastructure. There is land based whale watching from Point Lookout (the North Gorge walk is a must see) during spring and world class surfing throughout the year on the breaks that surround Point Lookout. The ideal way to see Straddie 4 Wheel Drive, but there are many stunning coastal walks and a mountain bike and whale watching map is an easier and more environmentally sound alternative.
