Straddie has great beaches for Four Wheel Driving
Whether it's Main Beach and its 35k stretch of white sand to Jumpin Pin or the pristine Flinders Beach, Straddie has awesome fishing gutters with special easy 4WD access.
You'll need a Beach Access permit, available from various locations including post offices and newsagents - cost $44.50 annually. Both Stradbroke Island Ferry companies can arrange you a permit - just let them know when you make your barge booking.
And if you are unlucky, you can always get your 'Fish Fix' from Fishes, or atleast enjoy a cold beer while you tell yarns about the one that got away.
Four wheel driving has long been a popular way to explore the natural beauty of North Stradbroke Island.
To ensure Straddie stays as beautiful as it is now, the Redland City Council has introduced 4WD beach permits. All revenue raised from these permits is used for the revegetation of the island's sand dunes, maintenance of bush tracks and the general protection of beaches.
Please note: No 4WDs are not allowed on the beaches an hour either side of high tide. Go to our Tide Times charts for Main and Flinders Beaches.
4WD Code of Conduct:
* The rules of the road apply to all beaches on North Stradbroke
* Enter and leave the beaches at designated beach access points only
* Slow down when passing people on the beach
* Use formed tracks only and never make new tracks
* Reverse back along the track by which you enter, rather than turn on the dune
* It is strictly prohibited to enter mine sites land where indicated and roads that are clearly marked closed to 4WDs
Four Wheel Driving Tips (4WD)
Queensland road rules, including speed limits, apply to all roads and beaches on North Stradbroke Island. 4WD Police vehicles including RBT regularly patrol beaches.
