Exploring North Stradbroke Island by bike is a healthy and environmentally friendly way of getting around this magnificent island. If you are not into a bike ride, grab a map and a set of binoculars and walk the Discover Stradbroke Whale Trail instead.

The views from Cyclinder headland & Frenchmans Beach compliment those of the Point Lookout North Gorge headland. At Point Lookout, you can hire a quality mountain bike and binoculars from Fishes Cafe located right at the "Point". Check out this google map in "satellite" view for an idea of where you can ride and the range of ocean you can see. The headlands of Point lookout face east and north so it is easy to follow these magnificent giant mammals as they work thier way north first (May - Sept) and then south later (Sept - November) in the year.

Once you pick up your mountain bike from Fishes Cafe, you use the Whale Trail Map of Point Lookout together with a whale idenitifcation chart, and cycle short distances to a series of vantage points situated high above the surf on Whale Rock, Frenchmans, Deadmans and Cylinder headlands.

The bike riding is achievable for most fitness levels and is an great way to cruise around Queenslands most easterly point. You will be riding on the shoulder of East Coast Road which has a 30k speed limit for cars in the Point Lookout area.

If you are lucky you will see more than whales, with the sheer cliffs giving you a national geographic type view of giant Manta Rays, Turtles and more likely than not an encounter with one of the largest pods of bottle nose dolphins in the world. These guys can be seem almost daily year round.

Binocular Hire only $10 all day

A family of 4 for just $140
