Spring has sprung and after a perfect winter of Straddie weather, and as the winds begin to swing back to the north east, Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island (Moreton Bay, Brisbane, South East Queensland)) remains the perfect place for land based whale watching. Fishes Cafe is offering a daily land based whale watching hire package which includes a quality mountain bike & helmet, binoculars and local fish and chips for lunch.

Fishes Cafe is located opposite to the entrance to Straddie's famous North Gorge Walk, Point Lookout. From here, you can relax on the grass and watch the whales going south to their summer feeding grounds. Then, get a birds eye view of the famous Frenchmans Beach surf break or marvel at the local North Stradbroke Island fishermen battling the swell as they put to sea each afternoon for a nights fishing.

The Straddie rock oyster (also know as "Sydney Rock Oyster") is a native to the waters of the east coast of Australia and shell deposits in Aborigine middens have been carbon dated to 6000 BC.

North Stradbroke Island is one of the largest sand islands in the world with miles of unspoilt sandy beaches. It has an outstanding freshwater lake system that has been listed as one of the worlds most ecologically important wetlands. This location and the fact that the island is mostly national park with no major agricultural industries makes Staddie ideal to fatten oysters free from potential pollution sources and run off.
